Organizational Health
Greetings! My name is
Nerissa Conn and I am the founder of Quincunx Consulting. I wanted to
give you some insight to who we are as a company. As the CEO, I have over
13 years of experience in education management, teaching, and coaching. Before
founding Quincunx Consulting, I had spent a significant amount of time as a
team member, managing different teams, and being managed by a variety of
"leaders". With every position
that I held came a different view of an organization, as well as what
contributed to a healthy organization. In my experience, organizational health isn't
discussed as much as it should be and I want to bring awareness to the topic. When something goes wrong, we tend to focus
on people, positions, money, or external circumstances. If an organization is struggling, a bad employee might be one of the symptoms of the
overall problem, but it shouldn’t be the diagnoses.
When a person is sick or
warn out, they take a sick day to recover. So why not take a sick day as
an organization, such as an employee retreat? Each employee is a
contributing factor to the health of an organization, so how much time are we
devoting to their success and development to keep the organization
healthy? Monitoring organizational health is necessary, just as each one of our
organs has a function to keep us healthy, each employee has a function to keep
the organization healthy. When you develop each employee, you are improving
the health and function of the organization as a whole. Evaluating
the health of your organization frequently is essential, when conducting your evaluation it is important to look for the following
symptoms of sickness:
Employees wasting
time
Leaders arriving
late/leaving early
Employees working more than
50 hours a week on non-peak times
Long ineffective meetings
Leaders constantly
fire-fighting
Fake harmony
Culture that lacks
accountability
Continuously working with
an Ad Hoc budget
Over the next few months, I
will be addressing each one of these topics, and giving insight on solutions.
Our company is focused on each one of your employees, therefore the
solutions provided will be employee focused and as a leader you will be there
to inspire, as well as drive the change. Your insight and comments are
always appreciated!
